Benefits Enrollment to Close April 30
The annual benefits enrollment is under way as enrollment packets have been
distributed to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff at Rice University. The
enrollment period will close at 4:30 p.m. April 30, when all forms must be in
Human Resources.
Kennedy Honored with ACM Award
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) selected Ken Kennedy, the Ann
and John Doerr Professor in Computational Engineering, to receive the 1998 ACM
SIGPLAN Programming Languages Achievement Award.
The award recognizes an individual who has made a "significant and lasting
contribution to the field of programming languages."
The ACM cited Kennedy’s many contributions to the computing field, including
his body of work on parallelization and data flow analyses to support advanced
programming environments.
Kennedy will receive the award at the ACM SIGPLAN Conference on Programming
Language Design and Implementation in Atlanta on May 3.
Basmati Group to Perform
The Basmati String Quartet, comprised of Shepherd School students, took first
in the strings category at the Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition on April
24 at Caltech. The musicians are Fia Mancini, violin; Alessandra Jennings, violin;
David Filner, viola; and Erin Breene, cello.
The Basmati String Quartet will perform on May 4 at 6 p.m. in Duncan Recital
Hall. Admission is free.
