John Anderson, professor, Dept. of Geology & Geophysics, has published a book titled “Antarctic Marine Geology,” published by Cambridge U. Press. The book is the first comprehensive single-authored book to introduce students and researchers to the geological history of the region and the unique processes that occur there.
Lars Lerup, dean, School of Architecture, will give a presentation titled “The Generic ‘Mittellandschaft'” at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany, Dec. 15.
Mary McIntire, dean, School of Continuing Studies, has been named a “Woman on the Move” by Texas Executive Women. The annual award recognized 10 Houston business and professional women for their professional achievements and service to charitable and civic organizations. McIntire is active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the San Jacinto Girl Scouts. She and the other award winners will be honored at a luncheon Nov. 11.
Honey Meconi, associate professor of musicology and music history, Shepherd School of Music, and director, medieval studies, was interviewed Sept. 7 by Belgian National Radio (VRT) in connection with the forthcoming publication “Foundation for an Empire: The Musical Inheritance of Charles V.” Meconi was also elected president of the Southwest Chapter of the American Musicological Society.
Antonios G. Mikos, the John W. Cox Professor of Bioengineering, Dept. of Bioengineering, was nominated by the Fellows of Biomaterials Science and Engineering of the Society for Biomaterials (U.S.) to be awarded the status of an international fellow. The constituent biomaterials societies of the World Biomaterials Congress affirmed Mikos’ status as fellow of biomaterials science and engineering (FBSE) on the international level. Mikos will receive a certificate at a special ceremony during the World Biomaterials Congress 2000 in Hawaii.
Susan Wood, professor, Dept. of English, has received a Pushcart Prize for her poem “Diary,” originally published in the Gettysburg Review. The poem will be included in the Pushcart’s annual anthology, “The Pushcart Prize 2000: Best of the Small Presses (No. 24),” to be published in hardcover by Pushcart Press in November.
