Andrea Ballestero, assistant professor of anthropology, was elected as a trustee of the Law and Society Association, an interdisciplinary scholarly organization committed to social scientific, interpretive and historical analyses of law across multiple social contexts. She will begin her two-year tenure at the 2017 International Meeting on Law and Society to be held in Mexico City in June.

Sarah Whiting, dean and the William Ward Watkin Professor at the Rice School of Architecture, was named a trustee of the Van Alen Institute, an independent, nonprofit architectural organization based in New York City. The institute hosts design competitions and offers fellowships, awards and public programs to nurture architects, urban thinkers, designers and scholars. It also fosters dialogue about architecture and its public consequence.
