Rice University commemorates 100 years of Asian undergraduate life
Rice University Community of Asian Alumni to host kickoff celebration

HOUSTON – (Jan. 23, 2017) – Rice University will celebrate 100 years of Asian undergraduate life with a kickoff event that includes an evening of engaging presentations and a variety of foods representing a spectrum of Asian and Southeast Asian cultures Friday, Jan. 27, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Rice Media Center, 6100 Main St.

The Rice and Houston communities are invited to attend the event, which features a series of presentations hosted by the Rice University Community of Asian Alumni (RUCAA), including “A Treasured Heritage: Stories From the Houston Asian-American Archive,” presented by Anne Chao; “Asians at Rice,” presented by Ed Chen; and “Celebrating Asian Culture at Rice Through the Arts and Research,” presented by Rice Asian students. Attendees will also enjoy a screening of “Off the Menu: Asian America,” a documentary about Asian food in Houston by Grace Lee.

The event is free and open to the public. Presentations will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a reception and student exhibit at 6:30 p.m.

“Asian life on campus is such a unique part of Rice’s fabric,” said Francine Di, co-president of RUCAA. “Celebrating a century of Asian student life is an incredible milestone and we look forward to reflecting on all of their contributions throughout 2017.”

The kickoff evening is part of a yearlong series of events commemorating 100 years of Asian undergraduate students at Rice.
