Rice gets ready to rodeo

Rice will kick off rodeo season with Go Texan Day festivities March 1 and March 3 in anticipation of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which is March 7-26. Rice-related activities will culminate with Rice Night at the Rodeo March 13. Rice students, employees, alumni and friends are invited to participate in the fun.

Go Texan Day in the RMC, March 1

Student Activities and the Center for Civic Leadership will be hosting a Go Texan Day in the RMC. Grab your cowboy boots and hat and join us from 3 to 5 p.m. March 1 in Farnsworth Pavilion. There will be a chili cook-off, a Western wear contest, a photo booth, games and other activities. Visit theĀ Facebook event page for information.

Go Texan Day, March 3

Dust off your Stetson and cowboy boots and dress in your western best as the whole city welcomes the trail riders and the start of Rodeo Houston.

Stop by HOOTS Breakfast Taco Sale from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at Willy’s Statue for $2 breakfast tacos (cash only) to benefit HOOTS (High Order of Owl Tailgating Society).

Half-price carnival packs, barbecue cook-off tickets, adult and children admission tickets, discount food cards and season passes will be available for purchase.

Downtown Rodeo Parade, March 4

Bring the family to see this annual Houston tradition, live and free of charge at 10 a.m. March 4. The parade route begins at Bagby and Walker streets.

Rice Program Council Night at the Rodeo, March 8

Tickets are on sale for Rice students only at the information desk in the Ley Student Center for $6 each; the limit is two per student ID.

Rice Night at the Rodeo, March 13

Show your Rice pride and cheer Sammy the Owl and other Rice representatives as they saddle up and ride out into the NRG Stadium rodeo arena to kick off this special night of celebration at 6:45 March 13. (Tickets in the special Rice seating section for the March 13 Rice Night at the Rodeo are now sold out, but individual tickets for this night and other Rodeo performances can still be purchased online.)
