CPR classes
offered

Free first aid
and CPR training will be offered to Rice students, faculty,
staff and spouses Nov. 11.

Instructors
from the American Red Cross will teach the fundamentals
of first aid and CPR, and participants will receive certification
and a reference manual at the conclusion of the class.

The location
is still to be determined. Those interested must preregister
by e-mailing their name and e-mail address to <cpr@rice.edu>.

Students can
help Texas children

As part of a
new effort called SHOUT that pairs the Rice Student Volunteer
Program with local community organizations, RSVP and Texas
Children’s Hospital will sponsor Child Watch Nov. 4
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rice students
who participate will learn firsthand the issues facing child
health care in Texas. The program will serve as an introduction
to SHOUT, which uses college students to educate families
about a free or low-cost children’s health insurance
program.

Only 30 people
can participate. Sign up on the Web at <www.ruf.rice.edu/~service>.
