Will new cars, buildings, even clothes soon be endowed with artificial intelligence?
How will nano-engineered materials change your life? How are bioengineers creating
tissue to replace damaged human tissue? If your inquiring mind wants to know
more about such topics, a continuing studies course could be in your future.

"The Dean’s Series: The School of Engineering" is one of many noncredit
courses offered by the School of Continuing Studies in its spring session. Classes
begin in late March and early April. Registrations are being accepted for enrichment,
career development and foreign language classes, and for professional development
programs.

"The Dean’s Series," set for nine Wednesday evenings beginning March
25, will feature Rice professors speaking on promising developments in their
fields, including environmental science and engineering, computational and applied
mathematics, bioengineering, electrical and computer engineering and computer
science. School of Engineering Dean Michael M. Carroll will give an introductory
lecture on "The Nature of Engineering."

Rice employees receive a 50 percent discount on most general lecture courses
and up to a 25 percent discount on limited enrollment courses such as languages,
studio art, creative writing and technical and professional classes. Those interested
in job-related courses should check with a supervisor; reimbursement may be
available for up to 75 percent of the cost of the course. Call Human Resources
for policy details.
