REMS learns from Houston Fire Department

Rice Emergency Medical Services members watch Houston Fire Department demonstrate how to free someone from a wrecked car.

Members of the Houston Fire Department’s (HFD) Heavy Rescue Division came to campus April 14 to help train Rice emergency medical technician students who are preparing to join Rice Emergency Medical Services (REMS). For one of the sessions, HFD personnel demonstrated how to manage patients who are stuck in a car after an accident and remove them safely. Flight staff from Air PHI, which transports patients by helicopter, also conducted training sessions, along with REMS instructors, volunteers and alumni. (Photos by Lisa Basgall)
