The Rice women’s basketball team became the first in Conference USA’s 25-year existence to win back-to-back regular season championships outright by defeating Old Dominion University 73-70 March 7 at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Five players scored in double figures for the Owls (21-8, 16-2 C-USA), led by 20 points from Erica Ogwumike, whose basket with 27 seconds left broke a 67-67 tie and gave Rice the lead for good.

Rice will face either Marshall University or the University of Southern Mississippi March 12 in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament in Frisco, Texas.
