FROM RICE NEWS STAFF REPORTS

RICHARD GOMER

“Cell Number Counting, Wound Healing and Fibrosing Diseases,” a part of the Wiess School of Natural Sciences Dean’s Lecture Series, takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 in Keck Hall, Room 102.

Richard Gomer, professor of biochemistry and cell biology, will discuss his recent findings that a human blood protein may regulate the formation of scar tissue in wounds as well as the scar tissue that forms inappropriately in fibrosing diseases such as congestive heart failure, pulmonary fibrosis and cirrhosis of the liver. He will also reveal how this discovery could lead to news therapies to improve wound healing.
