For college-bound students looking for financial help, the search just got easier.

As a service to the community, Rice University’s Multicultural Community Relations staff created a Web page — http://www.staff.rice.edu/staff/Scholarships.asp — that contains a comprehensive list of scholarships available to local students.

The page was launched in June with more than 40 links to a wide variety of organizations offering scholarships, including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Houston Association of Black Journalists, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and the Chinese Professional Club of Houston. The awards vary in terms of requirements and amount of money offered.

Multicultural Community Relations expanded the number of scholarship programs listed, thanks to the help of community members and Rice faculty, staff and students who recommended programs they were involved with or that had helped finance their own education.

”Rice University is proud to publish a Web page constructed with help from members of the community for members of the community,” said David Medina, director of Multicultural Community Relations. ”We hope this scholarship listing will become an invaluable resource for students pursuing a college education. During this economic downturn, it is especially important to help students find financial support to attend college.”

One of the goals of Rice’s Vision for the Second Century is to broaden and deepen the university’s engagement with its home city.

Multicultural Community Relations welcomes information about other scholarships available to local students. To suggest an organization that offers scholarships or a scholarship program that would benefit students in the community, contact Medina at dmedina@rice.edu.
