Hot, dry weather causing water-line breaks

The high temperatures and lack of rain over the past few weeks is causing waterline breaks across Houston, including on the Rice campus. The large water leaks are caused by dry, shifting soil putting pressure on the underground waterlines and breaking them.

Rice Facilities, Engineering and Planning requests patience as its employees work collaboratively with the city of Houston to address waterline breaks as quickly and efficiently as possible. After a waterline repair, residual sediment frequently remains but will dissipate as the line is used.

Report water leaks on campus to Rice’s Facilities Service Center, fsc@rice.edu or 713-348-2485.
