People, Papers and Presentations

Barbara White Bryson, associate vice president for facilities, engineering and planning, gave the keynote presentation at the second annual Leadership in Capital Projects Forum in Austin Feb. 24. The title of Bryson’s speech was “The Owner’s Dilemma,” which shares a title of her book that will be published this spring.

Ramon Gonzalez, the
William W. Akers Assistant Professor in Chemical and Biomolecular
Engineering, has been selected to receive the 2010 Soap and Detergent
Association/National Biodiesel Board Glycerine Innovation Research
Award from the American Oil Chemists’ Society. The award recognizes
outstanding achievement for research into new applications for
glycerine, with particular emphasis on commercial viability. Gonzalez
will receive the award during the Industrial Oil Products Division
luncheon at the 101st annual meeting and expo of the American Oil
Chemists’ Society in May.

Moshe Vardi, the Karen Ostrum George Professor in Computational Engineering and professor of computer science, received the Computing Research Associations 2010 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his long service to the computing research community.
