Obama honors Rice professors at White House gathering

Rice University faculty members Emilia Morosan and Farinaz Koushanfar were among dozens of researchers who gathered with President Barack Obama Dec. 13 at the White House, where they were honored as recipients of this year’s Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers.

Morosan, third from right in the top row, is an assistant professor of physics and astronomy and of chemistry.

Koushanfar, second from left behind Obama, is an assistant professor in electrical and computer engineering.

Also among this year’s recipients was Rice alumna Virginia Davis ’06, an associate professor of chemical engineering at Auburn University.
