House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to speak at Rice Nov. 10

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) will present a speech on “Economic Growth and the American Dream” to Rice University students, faculty, staff and invited guests at 11 a.m. Nov. 10. His talk in DorĂ© Commons at Rice’s Baker Institute for Public Policy will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Rice President David Leebron will provide introductory remarks.

Representing Virginia’s 7th District, Cantor has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2001. After the 2010 midterm elections, Cantor was elected by his colleagues in the House to serve as the

majority leader for the 112th Congress.

In Congress, Cantor has earned a reputation as a strategic thinker and ideas-driven conservative. The Weekly Standard featured him as an emerging leader of “Young Guns of the House GOP.” Congressional Quarterly has described him as “the GOP’s communicator, rainmaker and consensus builder.”

A former small businessman, Cantor has emerged as a leading voice on the economy and job creation. His commentary is often featured in publications focusing on a wide range of issues, including economic matters, health care, foreign policy and defense. He serves as chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare.
