In the stillness of July

The July 26 performance by Houston’s Hope Stone Dance outside Rice’s Shepherd School of Music may have seemed like a spontaneous expression of joy, but “in the stillness of July” was in fact a strategized frolic in response to the nearby Ribbon Pavilion created by Dutch artist collective We Make Carpets.

Organized by the Moody Center for the Arts and Rice Public Art, the performance featured dancers Jacquelyne Boe, Kayla Collymore, La’Rodney Freeman, Rachael Hutto, Robbie Moore, Travis Prokop and Donald Sayre alongside musicians Jason Jackson and Lawrence Turner. (Video by Brandon Martin)
